2025 Provincial Election Campaign

2025 Provincial Election Campaign

Ontario is headed for an early election. The provincial election will be held on February 27, 2025. Now is the time to assess the candidates and parties, and their environmental platforms and commitments. We must make our voices heard about the urgent need to address the twin crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. That can be achieved through a fair and just economy where people prosper.

Please help make the environment central to this election. Candidates must hear that voters will not stand for continued biodiversity loss and climate inaction. Together, we can be the voice for wild species and wild spaces in Ontario.

Make Your Voice Count by Voting in the Ontario Election

The provincial government plays a significant role in our day-to-day lives, from land use planning, natural resource management, health care, education, transportation, and beyond.

Unfortunately, during the 2022 provincial election, only 43% of eligible Ontarians voted, which was the lowest voter turnout in Ontario’s electoral history. There are certainly many reasons for low voter turnout, but the challenges Ontario faces are too important to not engage with the democratic process.

A Message from Fair Vote Canada about the 2025 Provincial Election!

Only 43% of Ontario voters supported the PCs, yet the voting system has handed Doug Ford’s PCs 64.5 % of the seats and 100% of the power.

Voter turnout was 45.4%. That means the current “majority” government is supported by 20% of eligible voters. In a winner-take-all electoral system, many people feel they must vote for the lesser evil, or are discouraged from voting at all.

It’s time for a fairer democracy – one where every vote truly counts. Proportional representation ensures that government reflects the will of the people, not just a fraction of them.
